WELCOME TO SYMBIOTEX

Sustainable materials for global health.

THE PROBLEM

We know that our planet could be happier and healthier if we worked towards a plastic-free future, but items that we rely on every day are still having a harmful impact on the environment.

Over 60 million medical inhalers are distributed across the UK alone every year, but only 0.5% of these are recycled.

The cosmetic packaging sector produces 120 billion units a year, of which less than 14% reach recycling plants and less than 9% are recycled.

The result is a huge volume of cosmetic packaging and single-use medical devices ending up in landfill. Items which are part of our daily health and wellbeing routines are incredibly detrimental to the environment and our health by contributing to the creation of microplastics.

OUR VISION

SymbioTex’s vision is to disrupt this harmful cycle by displacing as much landfilled single use rigid plastic as we can. We have created a sustainable and truly home compostable material that can be used to revolutionise the production of packaging and medical devices currently made from single-use plastic.

Transforming the environmental impact of these items will help to embrace a healthier future for our planet and improved health and well-being for consumers around the world.

OUR PRODUCT

SymbioTex’s unique material utilises sustainably cultivated seaweed to produce home compostable filaments and pellets.

Seaweed is one of the world’s fastest growing organisms and naturally sequesters carbon as it grows. Seaweed does not create harmful by-products upon disposal – in fact, as seaweed is a natural fertiliser, it is actually beneficial to the environment!

Our filaments and pellets are processable on standard industry machinery, such as injection moulding and 3-D printing, but at lower temperatures than plastic. This offers a seamless plug-and-play solution to plastics manufacturers who can replace their current fossil fuel based plastic pellets with our biobased home compostable pellets.

OUR SOLUTIONS

SymbioTex aims to licence its patented technology to current manufacturers, allowing them to create the same products but with material that is home compostable. We listen closely to our clientele in order to understand their expectations and tailor the filament or product to their needs  – whether this be flexibility, time to degradation, colour, texture or strength.

Our material has a great oil, oxygen and lipid barrier giving it a great shelf life, when you are finished simply pop it in your food waste bin, green bin or normal general waste bin where it will break down naturally – the same as a banana peel!
